Botox for Wrinkles
Botox is the name of a substance produced by a type of bacteria. Over the past fifteen years, this substance has been used to treat various medical conditions that result from muscle contractions.
The first approved use of this medication in medicine was for cases of recurrent eyelid spasms. Dermatologists noticed that patients treated with this substance had a disappearance of their expression lines and wrinkles. Since then, Botox has become the most effective treatment for most expressive wrinkles on the face.
What are the cosmetic uses of Botox?
In the field of cosmetics, we distinguish between two types of wrinkles: age-related wrinkles and expressive wrinkles, which are not necessarily related to aging and are the focus of Botox treatment. Expressive wrinkles include frown lines between the eyebrows, crow's feet around the eyes when laughing or squinting, horizontal forehead lines, lines between the nose and mouth, and horizontal neck lines, which are primarily influenced by genetics and skin nature.
How does Botox hide all these wrinkles?
Botox relaxes the tense muscles that cause the appearance of wrinkles. The lines on the forehead give a touch of surprise to the facial features, while frown expressions leave a touch of sadness. Drooping mouth corners give an impression of anger. Injecting Botox in these areas helps relax them, making the face appear more youthful and refreshed.
Is Botox treatment painful?
Botox treatment involves very small injections under the skin (similar to insulin injections), which may cause minimal pain. Some people may experience mild redness and swelling, but they can usually return to their normal activities immediately after the treatment.
When does Botox take effect, and how long does it last?
Visible improvement usually occurs five to ten days after treatment. The duration of its effect varies from person to person, but it typically lasts for four to six months. With continued treatment, the duration of the effect may extend up to a year.
What are the side effects of Botox?
Some bruising may occur at the injection sites, although this is rare, and it usually disappears within a few days. Temporary eyelid drooping is a possible side effect that can occur within one to two weeks after the injection and typically improves within four weeks.
